William R. Davis, Jr., of Needham, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at his home. Bill was 49 years old. He was a graduate of Beverly High School Class of 1982 and earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in business from Babson College. Bill was a dedicated employee of IBM.
Bill was a good hard-working man, and a reliable and constant friend to many. He was always ready to lend a helping hand or celebrate the good fortune of others. He was spirited and fun-loving and couldn't help but make those around him smile. His ability to focus on what was important and not take himself or others too seriously was a comfort to many. Throughout his life, Bill channeled his abundant energies into sports of all kinds as an athlete: football; rugby; running the streets of Needham as well as having completed the Boston Marathon four times; chasing his children on the beach, zooming down bike paths, or exploring forest trails; and of course as an avid New England Patriots fan.
Bill was fully and completely devoted to creating an idyllic, wonderful, and happy life for his beloved wife Laurie (Gassett) Davis, and his most-cherished children Catherine, Harrison, and the eagerly-anticipated new baby Davis who is expected to arrive in August 2014. Bill is also survived by his parents William and Marie Davis of Beverly, MA, his siblings Mark Davis of Falmouth, MA, Allison Goble of Gaithersburg, MD, and his nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at the Congregational Church of Needham, 1154 Great Plain Avenue, Needham on Monday, March 10 at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at the Needham Cemetery. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A reception to celebrate Bill's life will be held at Laurie and Bill's home immediately following the interment.
Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Avenue, Needham on Sunday, March 9 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Davis Family Children's Trust c/o Leah Gassett, 32 Taft Avenue, West Newton, MA 02465.
