Coast Guard Emblem

Stephen J. Ftorek passed away peacefully on November 24, 2017, two weeks shy of his 98th birthday. He was predeceased by his wife Ruth, the love of his life for 61 years. He was also predeceased by his parents Stephen and Louise Ftorek, his sister Annie, brother Willie, and his precious granddaughter Anna. He is survived by sons Stevie (Tessa) of Eastport, ME and Robbie (Wendy) of Wolfeboro, NH and his daughter Jorie (Patti) of Binghamton, NY. He was the proud Grandad to seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Steve was born in Canton, Ohio and proudly served in the Coast Guard during World War II. Building his own home in Needham led to a fulfilling career in carpentry with his brother-in-law Jim Barton. Steve also coached Needham PeeWee hockey, spending many hours at Tabor rink and making several bus trips to Quebec. His devotion to watching his family play hockey was one of the greatest joys of his life. After retirement, he enjoyed summers at Lake Wentworth in NH, where he swam, water skied, rowed and golfed late into his life. Steve was always willing to lend a hand to any and all who needed it. Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, on Tuesday, November 28th from 5-7 pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Joseph Church, 1360 Highland Ave, Needham, on Wednesday November 29th at 10 AM. Interment with Military Honors to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Thank you to the staff at St Patrick's Manor in Framingham and a special thank you to his caretaker Jayne. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Steve's name to St. Patrick's Manor, 863 Central St., Framingham, MA 01701.
