Stephanie Hjelm passed away peacefully on November 9th surrounded by her family and the caring and loving staff at the Charles River Center in Needham, MA. Stephanie was born on July 2nd 1955 in Littleton NH and spent most of her life living with her parents in Franconia and Bath NH. After both her parents passed away in 1995, she was cared for by her Aunts Lillian Hjelm and Lois Ross for many years. In her later years she was a resident at the Charles River Center in Needham, MA where she thrived with the many wonderful resources they afforded her.
Stephanie was born with Downs Syndrome at time when there were few services available to assist her. She was raised in a caring and loving family and was always treated as just another one of the kids; she loved socializing and could frequently be seen out and about with her loving Mother or attending her brothers, Carl and Eric's, school functions. Stephanie never saw herself as different, she experienced life to the full extent possible and participated in whatever activities she could. She had an engaging personality, and everyone she met, whether she knew them or not, was greeted with a hug and a kiss. She was a wonderful soul who had unconditional love for everyone she came in contact with. She never judged anyone and everyone was accepted into her life with open arms, we could all learn something from her life.
Stephanie is predeceased by her Mother, Mary (Betty) Hjelm and her Father, William (Bill) Hjelm. Surviving members of her immediate family include her brother Carl Hjelm and his wife Lisa of Foster City, CA; her brother Eric Hjelm and his wife Ellen of Windham, ME; her beloved niece and nephews, Kirsten Kelley and her husband Kyle of Henniker, NH; Tyler Hjelm of Windham, ME and Nathan Hjelm of Quincy, MA.
A celebration of Stephanie's life will be held on Friday December 2nd from 4-6 at the Eaton Funeral Home located at 1351 Highland Avenue in Needham, MA. There will also be a graveside service Saturday December 3rd at 11:00 AM at the Elmwood Cemetery in Franconia, NH.
