Sidney George Spector of Needham, MA, passed away at home on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. Beloved husband of Sheila (Paletz) Spector and the loving father of David Spector and the late Meredith Ann Spector. Loving grandfather of Benjamin Spector. Sidney was the son of the late Maurice Spector and Edith Meltzer Spector, and brother of the late Phyllis Spector. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Rhoda Werblin and brother-in-law Lester Werblin, of Weston, MA, his brother-in-law Robert Paletz and sister-in-law Susan Paletz, of Farmington Hills, Michigan, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.
He attended public schools in Malden, Massachusetts, and graduated in 1946 with a scholarship for his freshman year at Harvard University. He graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with a minor in Art History, which enabled him to spend as much time as possible at The Museum of Fine Arts. He subsequently received a Masters Degree in Public Health from the University of Massachusetts.
Sidney was the Director of Muscle Disease Research and Patient Service Administration for a national health agency in New York City. He was a self-published author of two books, and he was working on a third book about his mother's early life in Ukraine and her coming to America as a sixteen-year-old with her family.
Graveside Services will be held at Needham Cemetery, 128 Nehoiden St., Needham, on Friday, October 14th at 11:00 AM and conducted by Rabbi Matia Angelou. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Shiva (Memorial Observance) will be his home, 5 Fairfield St., Needham on: Friday following the services until 5:00 PM, Saturday from 6-9 PM, Sunday from 1-5 PM and Monday from 2-5 PM.
