Shirley (Bond) McGill, a lifelong resident of Dover and Mattapoisett, passed away at her home on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. She was 89 years old. Born in Needham, she was the daughter of Herbert and Hazel Bond. Shirley was a graduate of Colby College. Mrs. McGill taught at Tenacre Country Day School for 35 years. An active member of the Dover Community, she served as a part time librarian, served on the school committee and was a longtime member of the Dover Historical Society. Shirley enjoyed skiing at Okemo in Vermont and summers at the beach in Mattapoisett. An artist and avid reader, she also enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, knitting and travelling with her sister Cynthia. The beloved wife for 57 years of the late James K. McGill, Jr., she was the loving mother of Pam and her husband Andy Cyr, Cindy and her husband Ron Sauve, Wendy McGill, James K. McGill III "Jake" and his wife Lynn and Thom and his wife Lisa Haddon. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held in the Dover Church, 17 Springdale Ave, Dover, on Friday March 24th at 11 am. Relatives and friends are kindly invite to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley's name may be made to the Dover Historical Society, PO Box 534, Dover MA 02030.
