Roger E. Shaughnessy, who served on the Newton Fire Dept. for 41 years until his retirement in 1991, passed away at his home on Nov 10, 2015. He was 89.
Born in Cambridge, Roger was a longtime Newton resident and graduate of Newton North High School. He had served in the US Army during WW II. He was stationed in Oak Hill, Newton Corner and retired from Newton Fire Headquarters.
Roger was the beloved husband of Patricia M. (Staunton) Shaughnessy, the loving father of Margaret "Meg" Shaughnessy of Natick, Carol Shaughnessy Lehr and her husband Andy of Newton Centre and proud "Papa" of Roger T. Lehr. He was the brother of the late William, Margaret, Dorothy and Richard Shaughnessy and Mary Griffin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be from the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St Newton Corner on Fri Nov 13 at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church Newton Centre at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours Thurs 4-8 PM. Interment Newton Cemetery.
