Richard A. Stark, of Walpole, formerly of Needham, died on December 15, 2017. Born at the Glover Hospital in Needham in 1947, the son of Charles Stark and Irene (Prior) Stark, was the oldest of three brothers. Brothers Thomas Stark of Hyannis and Robert Stark of Norfolk both survive him along with many nieces and nephews. Rick graduated from Needham High School in 1965 and attended Northeastern University, achieving a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration in 1970. He attained his CPA distinction in 1973. He worked in both the private and public accounting sectors with Arthur Anderson & Co, then Estabrook & Co. and went on to become VP of Finance for Extraversion, Inc.. In 1987 he joined the CPA firm of Heald Hoffmeister and Company in Needham as a partner. For the past 14 years he has been a self-employed CPA and financial consultant operating around the corner from his home in Walpole. Rick was a member of the US Army and joined the National Guard in 1971 where he attained the rank of Captain, and then served in the reserves, becoming a Major before retiring in 1988. Rick worked the Blizzard of '78 with the Guard, rescuing trapped commuters on 128 after riding a snowmobile from Needham to report for duty at the barracks in Natick. A long-time member of the Walpole Country Club, Rick served as Treasurer of the club for many years. He'll be remembered as a dear friend and member of the "B minus boys", for his golf game, his unwavering power of will and optimism, his tireless work ethic and commitment to enjoying life. Rick is survived by his daughter Tracy Stark and her husband, Peter Frothingham, and his daughter Lori Stark. Visiting hours are Wednesday December 20th from 4 to 7PM at the Eaton Funeral Home in Needham, with a service at 11AM Thursday, the 21st at the Eaton Funeral Home, interment to follow at the Needham Cemetery and a luncheon in Norwood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
