Nicholas Jordan Baker
Nick passed away peacefully the morning of March 19, 2018. He is predeceased by his loving wife Joan (nee Benson) and is survived by his beloved children Ned, Bee, and Bonnie, brothers Toby and Ben, sister Hope and six grandchildren (Benjamin, Marta, Elise, Linzee, Ellie, and Katie). Nick was born July 16, 1933 in Boston, MA to Talbot and Polly (nee Beale). Nick graduated from Milton Academy in 1951 and Harvard in 1955. After college Nick spent 2 years in the U.S. Navy and then 5 years at State Street Bank in Boston. In 1962, he began teaching fifth grade at Milton Academy and married his wife Joan. Nick continued his career in education as head of Lower School at Moses Brown (1967-Providence, RI), head of Lower School at Greenwich Country Day (1970-Greenwich, CT), and head of Lower School at Meadowbrook (1972-Weston, MA). In 1976, Nick purchased an instant printing franchise in Boston and operated it until he sold the business in 1990. In retirement Nick spent time writing six books. Two books were about the history of Wings Neck, a place he loved, and four books were about the paintings and artwork of John Prentiss Benson, his wife's grandfather. Throughout his life, Nick enjoyed sailing, traveling, and spending time with his family. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Parish Church in Weston at a date and time to be determined. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Association to Preserve Cape Cod, 482 Main St., Dennis, MA 02638 (www.apcc.org).
