Monica C. Farren, of Newton, passed away at her home on Wednesday, October 5, 2016. She was 71 years old. Monica was a graduate of Albertus Magnus College. After graduation, she began her career at John Hancock Insurance in Boston. After one year, John Hancock asked her to move to San Francisco where she lived for over 25 years and moved up to a Vice President position. She received many service awards along the way. Later, Monica returned to Boston where she continued as a VP until she had to stop working due to living with MS and other medical complications including cancer. Monica's strong Catholic faith and belief in the power of prayer carried her through many years of living with MS and other illnesses. She was gracious, loving and was not one to complain. Monica loved a party and to be with friends and family.
Daughter of the late Neil and Mary B. (Cavanagh) Farren. Sister of Thomas Farren and his late wife Virginia of Concord, Fr. John Farren, OP, (former Rector of St. John's Seminary in Brighton) of New York, Sr. Mary Farren, RGS, of Watertown and the late Cornelius and his surviving wife Mary Cornelia "Connie" Farren of Medford. Also survived by 9 nieces and nephews and 19 grandnieces and grandnephews.
Her funeral will be held from the Eaton and Mackay Funeral Home, 465 Centre St, NEWTON CORNER, on Tuesday October 11th at 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington St., Newton, at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Monday from 4-7 PM. Interment at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Seasons Hospice, 450 Burlington Mall Road, Burlington MA 01803.
