Maureen D. (Dwyer) Griffin, 71 of Newton, formerly of Hingham, passed away suddenly on March 9, 2018. She is survived by her husband and the love of her life, Richard F. Griffin, with whom she was to have celebrated 40 years of marriage this month. She cherished being a loving mother to Emily and her husband Spencer Balboni of Duxbury and Melissa Griffin of Newton. She was a doting "Nana" to Mason, Scarlett and Alden Balboni. She is also survived by her twin sister and lifelong best friend Marlene MacNeil and her husband Leo, as well as her brothers Don Dwyer and his wife Kathy, and Joseph Dwyer and his wife Tina. She also leaves her mother-in-law Jane Griffin, brother-in-law Kenneth Griffin and his wife Carol, as well as many loving relatives and friends. Maureen was predeceased by her beloved parents Philip and Irene (Ellis) Dwyer and brother Philip Dwyer Jr.
Maureen was raised in a home filled with love and laughter. Inspired by her parents, Maureen filled her home with unwavering devotion and love for her family. Her kindness and compassion for others was far reaching. This included her many students over the years at Academy Avenue Primary School in Weymouth and Second Church Nursery School in West Newton as well as her nieces and nephews with whom she had a very special bond. Maureen's greatest joy was her role as dear "Nana" to her three grandchildren. Through them, her legacy of kindness and compassion continues to live on.
Visiting hours will be at the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home, 465 Centre St., Newton Corner on Tuesday, March 13, from 4-8 pm. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ignatius of Loyola, Chestnut Hill on Wednesday, March 14 at 10 am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
