Margaret M. Raffol Collins, 91, of Needham, passed away on September 16, 2017 at Mary Ann Morse Healthcare Center in Natick. A Needham resident of 62 years, Margaret was born on January 1, 1926 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. As a child she lived in the small town of Anadarko, OK and attended a one-room schoolhouse where her mother taught all elementary grades. Margaret attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After graduating college in 1946, Margaret married her first husband Thomas J. Raffol and moved to Boston. She worked for the Publishers Guild until 1950. For 20 years she worked for the Needham Public Works until her retirement in 1991. After retirement, she worked part-time with her son Kenneth J. Raffol for 6 years at Heald, Hoffmeister & Co. Margaret was a regular volunteer for the Needham Community Council and the Council on Aging where she assisted at the Senior Center and offered her time and friendship as a "Friendly Visitor." She was also a faithful parishioner of St. Joseph's Parish in Needham where she sang in the choir. Margaret was a member of the Sweet Adelines, a women's barbershop singing group for 13 years and the Town Crier's Quartet which won the Regional Championship in Boston. As a professional singer, her chorus was recorded on a Regional Championship album and sang at Carnegie Hall, NYC and Symphony Hall, Boston. She is predeceased by her mother, Myrtie (Baldwin) McMillan and her father Martin Bryan McMillan. Margaret was the beloved wife of the late Francis Collins. She is survived by her four sons: Robert T. Raffol and his wife Mary Anne of Needham; Kenneth J. Raffol and his wife Nayla also of Needham; Martin J. Raffol and his wife Christine of Natick; and Joseph E. Raffol and his wife Jane of Dedham. Margaret was the loving grandmother of ten and great grandmother of seven children. A private service will be held for family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mary Ann Morse Employee Fund, c/o Mary Ann Morse Healthcare Center, 45 Union Street, Natick, MA 01760.
