Lance Maxwell Remsen a lifelong resident of Needham and lifelong summer resident of Deer Isle, ME, died on January 24, 2018, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 71 years old. Born in Boston, Lance was the son of the late Edman and Lucille (Allen) Remsen. He was a graduate of Needham High School Class of 1965 and the University of Rhode Island Class of 1969. Lance was a US Army Veteran. He worked for the Town of Needham Public Works Department for 37 years, retiring as the Superintendent of the Parks and Forestry Division. Lance was the beloved husband of 41 years to Mary Jean (Hynes) and the loving father of Christopher Remsen and his wife Sharon of Hopkinton and Becky Berk and her husband Matthew of Belmont. Grandpa of Kyle, Brendan, Natalie and Colin. Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham on Monday, January 29th from 4-7 PM. His funeral service will be held in the First Baptist Church, 858 Great Plain Ave, Needham, on Tuesday January 30th at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Needham Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lance's name may be made to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham Cancer Center, Attn: Samantha Sherman, Development Office, 148 Chestnut St, Needham MA 02492.
