Katherine "Kay" L. Peters, formerly of Needham, passed away on January 17th at the age of 90.

Born in Boston, Kay grew up in Newton, MA where she attended high school, worked at the Stowe-Woodward plant and played many games of tennis. She moved to Needham when she married her husband, Leo Peters of Somerville, MA. Kay worked at Lee Shops in Needham, MA while raising her daughter Robin and, after she retired at age 62, she took a part-time job at North Hill in Needham where she worked one-on-one with the elderly. Kay enjoyed children, animals, music, cooking, reading, watching sports (especially golf and tennis) and ballroom dancing at Moseleys in Dedham. She loved living in Needham near family, and was a regular at the Needham Senior Center where she could often be found playing cribbage or card games with friends.

She moved to Newburyport, MA in 2013 when she was diagnosed with dementia to be near her daughter and her family, and lived for 4 years at the Atria and Avita assisted living facilities before spending her final days at the Wingate nursing facility in Haverhill, MA. Kay is predeceased by her husband, Leo; her parents, Cosmo and Michaelina Covino; her brother, Anthony Covino, her sister Lena Barton and her nephew Steven Barton.

She is survived by her daughter Robin (Peters) Schell and son-in-law Todd of Amesbury, MA; their 2 adult children, Tucker and Amanda; her nieces Antoinette, Maria and Elisa Covino; Kim (Barton) Piper and her husband Scott; her nephew Richard Barton and his wife Jet; her sister-in-law Carmela Covino and her brother-in-law Charles Barton.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Jan. 26th from 4-7 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home in Needham. A funeral service will be held on Sat Jan 27 at 10 AM in the Needham Congregational Church, 1154 Great Plain Ave in Needham. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
