John H. "Jack" Gallagher, Jr. 84, of Needham, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 10, 2016 after a courageous month-long battle with Leukemia. Born on July 20, 1932 in Somerville, MA, he was the son of the late John H. Gallagher and Helen (Murphy) Gallagher, and brother of the late Margarete Marcel, Judith McDonald and Dennis Gallagher.
A true Bostonian, Jack was raised in Somerville, MA, and as a boy worked hard doing odd jobs around Boston to supplement his family's income. A veteran of the Korean War, he was the youngest man in his troop and attained the rank of Sargent. Aside from being the Colonel's personal driver, Jack's keen knowledge of electronics led him to be the troop's radio technician.
After the war, his knack for marketing & sales inspired him to successfully co-found and profit from several technology companies including J&J Associates, Datel, Power General, Astrodyne, Acculex and Metrabyte. A mentor to others, humble and generous, Jack took pride in leading companies that created jobs for all skill sets.
Jack had a passionate hobby of investing in real estate and the stock market. He enjoyed watching the Red Sox & Patriots, spending time with his family and collies and vacationing in Palm Beach, FL & Cape Cod.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Cecilia "Sally" (Scanzillo) Gallagher, and was the devoted father of John H. Gallagher, III and his spouse Catherine DeMello of Wellesley, MA, and Karen G. Brassil and husband Paul W. Brassil of Medfield, MA. Jack was also the proud grandfather of Emma, Maia, Gavin Gallagher and Rochelle DeMello; Caroline, Jennifer & John "Jack" Brassil. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, on Monday, November 14th from 4-7PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. His Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church, 1382 Highland Ave, Needham, MA will be held on Tuesday, November 15th at 10:00AM followed by interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Needham.
