Joan M. (Kenney) O'Hearn of Newton died in her home on August 6, 2015. She was 89.
Born in Brookline Joan attended Newton Country Day School of the Sacred Heart and graduated from the University of Vermont and became a kindergarten teacher in Boston before devoting 30 years to raising her children and being active in a number of organizations. Joan was dedicated parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish in Newton, including serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and assisting in numerous parish activities. She was an active alumna and parent at Newton Country Day School, a member of Charles River Country Club and a Past President of the Ace of Clubs and Marco Island snowbird. In her 60s Joan returned to work at the Chestnut Hill Filene's. She loved her colleagues, her customers and her discount! Most importantly Joan was fiercely dedicated to a wide circle of friends and neighbors.
Joan was married to William J. O'Hearn for 60 years, he pre-deceased her in 2012. She was the loving mother of Karen M. O'Hearn-Visinski of Amherst, NH and William J. Jr. and his wife Diana Smith of Ashburnham and grandmother of Sarah Visinski and her husband Robert Ingraham, Jessica Visinski and Edward and Katharine O'Hearn. She was pre-deceased by her sister Ann Dunn of Cohasset and was the loving Aunt of Susan Hassey of Scituate and Melissa Dunn of Cohasset.

Her funeral will be from the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St. NEWTON CORNER on Mon August 10 at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church Newton Centre at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery Needham. Visiting hours will be Sun from 5-7 PM.
