Gladys (Welch) Singleton, 95, of Needham, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham. Born in Bowdoinham, Maine, she was the daughter of the late William and Beulah (Eisan) Welch. Gladys grew cup in Dorchester and was a graduate of Dorchester High School. She went on to graduate in 1947 from the Boston City Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She was very proud to be a nurse. Gladys was an active member for many years of the VFW Auxiliary in Needham, Norfolk District 5 and across the state of Massachusetts. A member of Christ Episcopal Church, Gladys enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and creating beaded works of art. She looked forward to completing crossword puzzles in the newspapers and putting together jigsaw puzzles. She read the papers every day and never lost her desire for information and how things worked. She was the beloved wife for 47 years of the late Thomas Singleton and the sister of Sally Smith of Vermont and the late John and William Welch. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. A Funeral Service will be held in the Christ Episcopal Church Chapel on Friday, April 6th at 1:00pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invite to attend. Visitation will be held in the chapel from 12 noon to 1:00 PM prior to the service. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Needham. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gladys' name may be made to the American Heart Association, 300 5th Ave, Waltham, MA 02451 or to a charity of your choice.
