Enid M. MacGray, of Needham, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016 at Highgate Manor in Dedham. She was 95 years old.
Enid was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Needham for over 80 years where she sang in the choir and served on various boards. She was also a 50- year member of the Girl Scouts of America where as a youth she played bugle in the Drum and Bugle Corp. Enid's was a life of service. During World War II she was a member of the Women's Defense Corp where she was trained to drive a truck. She interrupted her education to work in a defense factory in CT. She later entered Boston Children's Hospital Nursing School, graduating in 1947. She served as head nurse of the operating room there until 1953. At that time, she joined the staff at Glover Hospital in Needham until 1956. After a nursing sojourn in CO, she returned to MA and to Newton Wellesley Hospital, the same hospital her father had served in the 30's and 40's. It was there that Enid set up the ICU and worked until her retirement in 1985. Enid spent many hours of loving service at the family cottage in Kittery, ME, a retreat still enjoyed by her family.
She is sorely missed by all. Daughter of the late E. Constance and Charles L. MacGray, MD. Sister of Elaine M. Starrett of Rockport, MA, Rev. Janet M. MacGray of Cranston, RI and the late Constance E. Powell, Lorna E. Tuthill and Charles K. MacGray. Also survived by thirteen nieces and nephews.
