Elio Goffi, of Needham, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the age of 94. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, he graduated from the University of Connecticut and the University of Illinois with two Master's Degrees in Organic and Inorganic chemistry. As a chemist, began his career at MIT (Mass. Institute of Technology) in Cambridge, MA. Later, he worked for the US Army Natick Labs in food technology, developing food for soldiers and astronauts. His career evolved to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), working with state of the art technology (mass spectrometer) to test and measure our air and water quality. After he retired, many in Needham will remember that he drove a school bus for the Needham Public Schools. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan (Hultin) Goffi; three children, Joan Goffi, DVM, Judy Goffi, MS, and Jeanne Goffi-Fynn, Ed.D in addition to three grandchildren, Elia Goffi, and Peter and Helena Fynn. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lilian, and his parents, Luigi and Teresa. He is remembered with love from all who knew him. A private service will be held.
