Edward V. Donovan, of Needham, passed away on Monday, October 31st at North Hill in Needham. He was 91 years old. Born in Dorchester and raised in West Roxbury, Ed was a son of the late John J. and Mary P. Donovan. Mr. Donovan attended Boston College but enlisted in the United States Navy before he was able to graduate.
Ed met his beloved wife of 66 years, Jean M. (Connelly), at a college alumni dance and they were married on September 30, 1950. At the time of his father's death, Ed became co-owner of the family's lighting fixture business in Waltham, with his brother John. He enjoyed photography, baking and reading history. Ed together with Jean, was an active members of Saint Joseph Parish in Needham for many years. Ed enjoyed travelling with Jean by plane and ship to Spain, Italy, Greece, Israel, Ireland, England and Russia, just to name a few of their favorite destinations.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Jean M. (Connelly) Donovan and his sister -in-law Joan A. DiPesa of Brookline as well as by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was the brother of the late John Jr. and Ruth Donovan.
His funeral will be held from the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, on Friday, November 4th at 9:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church at 10:00AM. Relatives and friends and kindly invited to attend. Visitation will be held on Friday morning from 9-9:45 prior to Mass. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Holyhood Cemetery in Brookline. In lieu of flowers donations in Ed's name may be made to Saint Joseph Parish, 1382 Highland Ave, Needham MA 02492
