Earl MacPherson, aged 90, died peacefully June 4, 2017 after a short period of failing health.
He was born to Annie (Johnston) and Daniel MacPherson in Newton, Massachusetts. Following his early years in Brighton, he moved to Needham for his fifth-grade school year and stayed the next 79 years. He graduated from Needham High School in 1944 and enlisted in the US Navy, serving as a radarman on the USS Potawatomi. After graduating from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, Earl began his career at Kinne's Pharmacy, taking over as owner from his father-in-law. Following his retirement from filling prescriptions, Earl filled grocery bags at Roche Brothers continuing an active presence in local stores well into his 80s. He lived in Needham until 16 months ago when he moved to his daughter Ann's home in New Hampshire. Earl was Master of Nehoiden Masonic Lodge, President of Needham Rotary Club, Deacon in the Congregational Church of Needham and active in his children's activities. He grilled steaks, raised water fights to new levels, played the bass on piano duets with his wife and loved being on the tennis court and ski slope. Earl and Nancy Kinne MacPherson were married 67 years until her death in 2011.
He is survived by his son, Craig, and wife Pat of St. James, N.C.; daughters, Ann Malconian of Exeter, N.H., and Joan MacPherson of Amesbury; grandchildren, Brian MacPherson, Daniel Malconian and Sarah MacPherson Huerta; great-granddaughter, Madeline and his sister, Jean MacPherson Sweatt. Earl is predeceased by his son-in-law Mark Malconian and his twin brother Donald.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Congregational Church of Needham, 1154 Great Plain Ave, Needham, on Monday June 19th at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
