Doris D. (Drescher) Cook, of Needham, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at her home. She was 93 years old.
Doris was a graduate of Needham High School and Simmons College. Mrs. Cook was an employee of Wellesley College for 46 years. For many years, she was an officer of Wellesley College, serving as Secretary of the College and Clerk of the Board of Trustees. Throughout her life, Doris had been actively involved in many organizations including the Girl Scouts, the Girl Scout Drum and Bugle Corps, Jr. New Century Club, Simmons College Club of Boston and Needham Historical Society. She was actively involved at the Congregational Church of Needham, where she was a member for over 80 years. She served the church as a Deacon, Collector, choir member, Confirmation Mentor, President of the Friendly Society, Sunday School Teacher and had served on most committees of the church. In her spare time, Doris enjoyed gardening, bird watching, singing, listening to music, watching sports, particularly the Red Sox, playing bridge, working on the computer, emailing and swimming at Cape Cod.
The beloved wife of the late Edward M. Cook, she was the dear stepmother of Vivian Berquist and her husband Barry, Edward M. Cook, Jr. and his wife Lee and David Cook and his wife Peggy. She was a dear grandmother to her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Doris is also survived by her cousin Paul Attridge and his wife Polly as well as many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham on Wednesday, February 21st from 4-7pm. Private burial will take place at the Gardens at Gethsemane Cemetery in West Roxbury.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Congregational Church of Needham, 1154 Great Plain Ave, Needham, on Saturday May 5th at a time to be announced.
