Condolence & Memory Journal

Early in my career, I worked with Dick on an emergency, late-night patent application filing. "It's martini time!" Dick exclaimed after the application was filed. I indicated that I would go home and probably just have a beer, since I was out of scotch. The next morning I arrived at work to find a bottle of single-malt Laphroaig sitting on my desk with a thank-you note from Dick. Godspeed Dick, and thank you for your generosity and mentorship.

I worked with Dick as his secretary at Hamilton, Brook, Smith & Reynolds. Dick would tell me that I did not work "for him", but worked with him. It was the absolute best working experience in my 50 years of working. Dick was the most generous, kind and knowledgeable man and I have many good memories of our working days together. He often spoke of his love of Gerry and their life together and he was a proud and loving grandfather of his granddaughter, Andrea. The world, his family, co-workers and friends have suffered a great loss.

Richard, also known as Papa, was my father-in-law. Dick was one of the kindest, smartest, loving and compassionate man I had the honor of having in my life. There are so many wonderful memories I have of time spent with Dick, he always made us laugh, he was a walking encyclopedia, always teaching us something new every time we were with him. Papa always had time for us as Andrea was the apple of his eye, he loved his granddaughter so much always being there for the many special occasions in her life. I will always be grateful for having you in my life and will love you forever as you will always have a place in my heart. Rest in Peace Papa until we meet again on the other side.
Love, Rosalie, your daughter-in-law
