Tribute & Message From The Family

Charles E. Jodrey (63) of Newton, MA, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2017, the brilliant Christmas star still radiant in the pre-dawn sky. His heroic battle with an incurable illness reached its finality with his son by his side.

Known by family and friends as Charlie, he was born in Waltham Hospital and, except for brief terms of residence outside of Massachusetts, he lived and worked in Newton, which has never been a doubt, his home.

All things boat and automotive describes Charlie's occupational and creative interests. This began when he was just a boy sharing in his Dad's love of automobiles and nostalgic memorabilia. A collector by nature of all things Americana kept his spirits alive to share detail rich stories about his treasured findings. His "picking" activities became so much more than a hobby that he was visited in late 2014 by the hosts of American Pickers (History Channel) and their interview with him immortalized him as it aired on Feb. 11, 2015 titled "Let it Go".

Keeping in the family, he continued to maintain his Dad's business, Art's Texaco, in
Nonantum, MA, after his father's death in 1982 until its 54-year operation came to an end in 2005. Among his many varied activities, he carried on his father's snow plowing business each winter as well.

Charlie's love for nature began as a child where the Jodrey Family set up camp on Swain's Lake in Barrington, NH. He continued the family tradition over the course of his lifetime, treasuring the lake and scenery and maintaining the grounds for his family to enjoy.

Aside from his incredible mechanical skills, he was a talented cook and baker, especially of the coveted heirloom recipe of Mama's Apple Upside Down cake.

Charlie was an eclectic personality with a love for adventure and a lust for life. His heart of gold never left a friend in need, leading him to a life surrounded by many friends and loved ones.

He was especially proud of the fine individuals his son and daughter had grown to become along with his title of Grandpa.

Son of the late Arthur E. Jodrey and the late Madeleine A. (Tolman) Jodrey, Charlie is survived by his son, Charles A. (Sam) Jodrey of Brighton, MA; his daughter, Rachel E. (Jodrey) Mulvey and her husband Shaun, their son Tyler and soon-to-be-born second son, of Palm Coast, FL. Charles is also survived by his Brother, A. David Jodrey of Natick, MA and his children Michelle and Christopher Jodrey; Sister, Lin (Jodrey Loomer) Gurney of Waltham, MA; the mothers of his children; Linda Hassell Jodrey of Palm Coast, FL (formerly Newton, MA); Karen Petitti Harker of Vandalia, OH (formerly Newton, MA); Kristen Ferrier, her husband Daniel and their three children, Penelope, Vincent, and CharliAnna of Belmont, MA, and, an abundance of friends and acquaintances in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
