Dr. Richard Lee Wing, 86, of Newton Centre, died on Nov 5, 2017.

Dr. Lee was born in Chelsea Massachusetts where he attended local schools graduating from Chelsea High School. He received his Bachelors degree from Tufts University in 1953 and his Dental degree (D.M.D.) from Tufts School of Dental Medicine in 1956.
Upon graduation, Dr. Wing entered the U.S. Navy Naval Dental Clinic at Portsmouth, N.H. where he received a Commendation from COM Des LANT (East Atlantic Destroyer Fleet). He became Department head and Dental Officer aboard the U.S.S. Edisto and was discharged as a Lt. After the Navy, he performed Oral Surgery for an associate, Dr C. Lewis, in a private practice. He was on the staffs at Malden Hospital, Grover Hospital in Revere and Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett from 1960-1980.
He was a member of the faculty of: Tufts Dental School, The University of Rhode Island School of Hygiene, Bryman School in Brookline, and was an Executive member of The Forsyth Institute. He was also on the Gavel Lectureship Committee and a member of the 90th Anniversary Gala Planning Committee.

While a member of the faculty at Tufts Dental School (1971-1990), he was a clinical Instructor of Social Dentistry, Assistant Professor for Department of General Dentistry,
Member of the Tufts Equal Education Opportunity Committee
Member of the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine Admissions Committee from 1977 to 1993, Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral Health Services and
delivered the Commencement speech at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine commencement exercises in 1987

In 1967, was elected corporator of the County Savings Bank, the Chelsea Savings Bank, the Atlantic Bank and the Boston Five Cents Savings Bank. He is also secretary of the Newton Crime Commission, Inc. and a member since 1979. Among his past credentials in Chinatown are, Member, Board of Directors of the South Cove Community Health Center, Founding members of their Health Task Force in 1969, Treasurer from 1974-1988, Councilman, Chinese American Civic Association (Now AACA) 1968-1971, Member, Board of Directors of the Chinatown YMCA 1971-1977, one of the founders of New England Lee Federal Credit Union in the 1960's, Secretary, VP and currently President of the New England Lee Federal Credit Union, Secretary and President of the Lee Association Scholarship Fund, Member, Boston Chinese Community Health Services, Inc. from 1975 to 1976, Member, Chinatown's Chinese Multi-Disease Screening Center in 1970, Member, Career's Conference for Chinese American for Tomorrow at Northeastern University in 1968, President of the Lee Family Association Scholarship Committee since 2002, Member of KKCS Head Search Committee, Has given talks at the South Cove Manor Nursing Home on dental care in 2005 and 2006, and more recently at Kwong Kow Chinese School, President of the Que Sing Chinese Music and Opera Group, Inc since 2013, General Affairs Administrator Officer of Lee's Family Association Convention from 2014 to 2017.
Until his retirement approximately six years ago, he was in private practice in downtown Boston where a high percentage of his patients are Chinese. He is a graduate of Kwong Kow Chinese School where he acquired much of the Chinese language skills and credits the K.K.C.S. for his ability to communicate with the aforementioned patients.

He was the beloved husband of Betty (Ng) Wing and the late Frances (Wong) Wing. Father of Gregory Wing and his wife Carolyn of Lexington and the late Robert Wing and his surviving wife Jane of Newton Centre. Grandfather of Nicholas, Zachary, Alexis and Francis. Step father of Richard Lee and his wife Emmeline, Kenneth Lee and his wife Simone and Emily Lee. Step grandfather of Haydn, Jarrett, Sabrina, Marcus and Sydney. Brother of George Wing of Brooklyn, Alvin Wing of Brookline, Deanna Wing of Newton and the late Lawrence Wing.

Visiting hours will be in the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St Newton Corner on Thurs from 4-8 PM and again on Fri from 10-11 AM followed by a funeral service at 11 Am. Interment will follow at Newton Cemetery.
